De La Warr Pavilion - Internship Opportunity

De La Warr Pavilion

Internship Opportunity

In September 2011, the De La Warr Pavilion will be staging Warhol is Here, a major exhibition of the work of Andy Warhol, exploring the artist behind the myth and the legacy that he has created.DLWP are seeking an intern for a three month period to assist the curatorial team in the production of the publication that will accompany this project and to experience how such exhibitions are planned and delivered successfully.

The concept for the publication is a compact, affordable pocket sized book containing short essays by invited artists, curators and writers, (including young people) of the memory, influence or indeed the impact of Warhol. The book will consist of around fifteen essays of 300-500 words together with images from the exhibition.

The book is designed to be accessible and have broad appeal, particularly to young people. The design for the book and arrangements for its publication are in place with a reputable designer and printer.

DLWP are therefore looking for a student with an interest in the visual arts and/or publishing who is a confident communicator, has excellent organisation and IT skills, can work to tight deadlines and be a reliable team member. The successful applicant will be responsible for the initial contact with a long list of potential contributors followed by continued liaison with the selected writers and managing the assembly of the final texts. They will also be required to obtain images and permissions for the book from a range of sources. The intern will work closely with the lead curator of the exhibition David Rhodes and other associated members of the team.

The intern will work a regular 2-3 days per week within the programming team on a voluntary basis, with reasonable travel expenses being met by the organisation. If required, casual paid employment will be made available to the successful candidate for front of house duties throughout the building. We also offer free entry to all events including those within the auditorium and staff discount in our restaurant, café and shop.

This internship represents an exciting opportunity for a person to gain valuable experience within the visual arts and publishing industry through assisting in the delivery of a specific, high-profile project.

Dates for internship May – July 2011
