Residency Programme

Meltdowns are fundraising for their 2011 Residency Programme now. Further information coming soon......follow meltdowns on facebook to get the latest info.

Meltdowns are based in Ramsgate Kent

Meltdowns write:The Residency Programme aims to encourage research & development activity in a supportive & inspiring environment. As artists ourselves, we recognise the importance of artists’ research & development without the pressures of an exhibition or final product. We therefore aim to create a space in which an artist can develop their ideas whilst not being restricted by studio space, technical issues or time. Please note the time spent on the residency is purely for research & studio development. The studio provided is a private space & no community interaction or teaching commitment is required.
The residency is during a period of five weeks in the summer, usually over July & August. The minimum number of days required attendance is three days a week, allowing for a part-time job during the residential period; however we would favour full time commitment.
The intention is for the selected artist to undertake a period of research or studio related activity during their placement & the expected outcome will be the generation of a body of work or research by that artist.
The Facilities & Finance
The artist is given full use of our project space. A series of contact meetings with members of staff at Meltdowns will be provided to discuss progress, any technical issues experienced or to receive an informal tutorial or crit as deemed most appropriate at the time.

There is a bursary provided (yet to be determined for 2011).  This is expected to cover all costs including materials, sustenance & accommodation. The selected artist will receive 50% of the bursary on acceptance on the placement & 50% on completion of the placement. The bursary will be paid directly into the artist’s bank account.
The resident artist will have access to the wireless network within the project space, the workshop & materials can be bought from us if required.
Eligibility
Applicants will be expected to have a degree (either undergraduate or post graduate) within a creative subject in any discipline, or be able to clearly demonstrate through portfolio development equivalent experience. Applicants must detail how they would benefit from this opportunity & what they aim to develop within their practice during the residency period. The residency is open to artists based in the UK.

Application and Selection Process
When submitting an application, artists will need to complete the Application Form, The Equal Opportunities Form (this isn’t compulsory) & to include their proposal. The proposal should include an artists’ statement (500 words), a research proposal (500 words), 10 current research questions that may or may not change through the residency placement & a paragraph demonstrating how this residency will help their practice. We also ask that they include a recent CV/Biography & five images of their work.

As part of our strive towards an ecologically considered studio practice, we would prefer applications via email. One can email applications to info@meltdowns.co.uk. It is preferred that images are JPEGS. Please do not send any videos.
All applications will be considered on their own merit & five artists will be short-listed. Interviews will take place during June when short-listed artists will present their work to the selection panel before a final decision is made. The successful artist will be notified in writing during June.
The decision made by the selection panel is final & unfortunately we will not be able to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants, as we cannot afford to spend time doing so.
