Older news

2011 has been a year of highs and lows, though a rewarding journey I have to say.

The year started with my annual visit to Hythe Arts Society where I gave a lively lecture and demontration in Acrylics. Many mixed shows including Folkestone, Rochester and Perth. Indeed 2011 saw my work for the first time shown at the Scottish Game Fair in July.

My publishers have launched several new print editions this year, more information below. The new prints were launched at this years CLA Game fair held at Blenheim Palace. It was a great show for me as I had hoped for, catching up with clients new and old, friends as well, whilst painting on the Sally Mitchell stand. My originals were shown there and on the Birds Birds Birds stand.

I enjoyed a day on the Louise fishing boat watching the Swale barge race where once again I gathered great reference for new marine paintings for the coming year. I even managed a little plein air study on the deck.

I had a chance to visit the British Wildlife Centre near Lingfield in Surrey in June. What a productive trip it was, and I cannot recommend a visit more highly. The reference I gained was outstanding and so watch this space for new images and the chance to own them before they go on exhibition.
I guess the highlight of my year so far was once more having my work shortlisted for the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the year for 2011. The competition culminated in a show for all shortlisted images at the Mall Galleries in London. My work 'Heed My Warning' looked great in its space on the wall. Sadly I did not win, but I have been shortlisted every year I have entered, so I feel that alone is a good achievement. Then there is always next year.

Heed My Warning oil on canvas 100cm x 80 cm

£5,750 available.

Pure Arts Group

I have been accepted into the Pure Arts Group for 2011 where I will be showing three works in their main event at the Battle Art Fair at the Powder Mills Hotel, Powder Mill Lane Battle TN33 0SP. Friday 16th to Friday 23rd September 2011 Go to http://www.pureartsgroup.co.uk for more information.

I have also been asked to exhibit more of my work at this event within the hotel itself. So between 7 and 12 more paintings will be on show, some for the very first time.

I will also be painting at this venue for Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of September 2011. So if you are in that area please pop in and support the show and have a chat with me.

New book on painting dogs

I am pleased to report that Search Press have commissioned a new book from me as an art instructional book on painting Dogs and Puppies as part of their ever expanding range of guides in the art field. I start work upon it very soon and I hope it will be released during late 2012/ early 2013.
This is a step up from the many articles on painting I have written in the past and it is hoped the start of many titles to come.

New Prints

Sally Mitchell Fine Art has added more of my work to an increasing portfolio of my images.

Keith Siddle SOLO EXHIBITION

Keith Siddle Solo Exhibition

Showing until 17th September

Pure Arts Group 2011 selected artist Keith Siddle, renowned for his Koi
and Tropical Marine fish paintings has an exhibition of over 40 paintings
at the Portico Gallery, Riverhead, Kent
Open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm running until the 17th September.

Other topics include; Turtles, Lobsters, Food art, Sunflowers, Butterflies and Orchids.

Keith’s paintings are a snapshot of nature, where motion becomes still.

Detailed studies combined with dynamic compositions and vibrant colours.
Often, but not always, fish.

“Having painted and been fascinated by wildlife since childhood,
when I first became a professional artist I initially decided to concentrate
on one subject and chose for their power, grace and colour variations the
oriental and beautifully ornamental fish, Nishikigoi (Koi).

I’ve embraced the same work ethos that the most eminent Japanese Koi breeders use in nurturing their Champions: Dedication, patience, detail, enthusiasm and passion.

These skills have enabled me to expand and experiment with my subject matter, from Tropical Marine fish and other Sealife inspired by my scuba diving experiences to Food Art, inspired by…..eating!”

HIVES BY DAVID DIXON 13 - 21 AUGUST @ STADE HALL HASTINGS

Hives

David Dixon

13- 21 August Tues- Sun 10 - 4pm
Private View: Friday 12 August, 6pm

David Dixon is a nationally exhibiting installation artist, currently based in the South of England. Uncertainty, impermanence and the active role of subjectivity are central to his work, which refers to modern physics and cognitive science.
More recently, Dixon's work has been evolving into an increasingly process-oriented exploration, often expressing itself through the use of particle-based materials such as dyed rice-flour and quartz powder.
He uses the impermanency of the unfixed dust, and it's potential to be damaged, in order to frame the work as a process rather than a discrete object.
The use of books is also an important element in his work. As well as being multi-facetted cultural devices, rich with associations of history, knowledge, identity and memory, he also uses them in a sculptural way, emphasising their phenomenological aspects.

David Dixon has created an intriguing site specific installation using books within the new building the Stade Hall as part of the programme Project, funded by Hastings Borough Council and coordinated by Creative Coast.

ART & SOUL @ FALMER - OPENS 28 AUG 2011

Wanted - local people to get involved in DLWP TV coverage

The De La Warr Pavilion will be hosting two TV programmes this August – and need your help to provide an audience!

BBC South East LIVE

On Friday 19 August, BBC South East will record LIVE from the De La Warr Pavilion rooftop as part of their Festival Fridays tour.  They would like people to come up to the roof to provide a background crowd whilst interviews are taking place between 6 and 7pm.  The cocktail bar will be open and the music will be playing as usual on a Friday evening.

The Bexhill Rowing Club will also be holding an event that evening in the DLWP auditorium where members of the public can bid for items donated to raise money for the fit-out of their new boathouse. http://www.nextwaveboathouse.com/Auction

Why not make an evening of it?!

BBC 2 Flog It!

Following its successful appearance on Flog It last year, the producers of this popular BBC2 TV series have decided to hold  their valuation day at DLWP on Wednesday 24th August  from 9.30am until 4.00pm.
Rather like a treasure hunt, members of the public are invited to bring along the antiques and collectables they might be interested in selling. Once valued, the owner and team of experts decide whether it should go forward for auction.  If the item is chosen it is sold a few weeks later – often with the owner making a tidy sum.

Everyone who goes along to the Valuation Day will receive a valuation – even if their antiques are not chosen to go forward for auction.

Weather permitting this will be an outdoor event (indoors if wet).

The DLWP look forward to seeing you there!
